Our Aims

At Jack and Jill's we have defined specific aims, both for our children and for the environment in which the children learn and play together. We think it is important that we know and our parents know which aims and objectives are specific to the children and those which are more "generic" and apply to the environment in which playing and learning takes place on a day-to-day basis..

Our Staff

Jack and Jill’s staff are all qualified or working towards CACHE level 3 or equivalent and all attend regular training courses and sessions to ensure their skills are current and to enable them to constantly broaden their knowledge.

All staff members are subject to full DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) or CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checks.

The team at Jack and Jill’s is comprised of a board of volunteer Trustee Directors, a full time Pre-School Manager and a team of qualified teaching assistants.

Overall direction and policy making is the responsibility of the Board, while “day-to day” running of the pre-school and facilitation of sessions is the responsibility of our manager and key persons respectively.

The Key Person System

Each child within our school is assigned a dedicated key person who will continually observe and assess their development. This enables us to plan fun and challenging activities to promote development and learning around your child’s individual interests. We know this approach really does result in high quality care and development for your child.

Ratios of Staff To Children

We are proud of the high ratio of key workers to children in our pre-school. This ensures greater attention to the developmental needs of each child. We believe our staff are fantastic and they were very highly praised during our last inspection by Ofsted.

We aim to ensure that every child:

  • is in a safe and stimulating environment
  • is given generous care and attention
  • has the chance to join with other children and adults to play, work and learn together
  • is helped to take forward his/her learning and development by being helped to build on what she/he already knows and can do
  • has a key worker who makes sure each child makes satisfying progress
  • is in a setting that sees parents as partners
  • is in a setting in which parents help to shape the service it offers

We aim to ensure that our setting:

  • provides high quality care and education for children up to statutory school age
  • works in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop
  • adds to the life and well-being of its local community
  • offers children and their parents a service that promotes equality and values diversity
  • helps promote skills for an easier transition into full time education
